Personal Struggles
As a counsellor, I bring not only professional training but also personal insight into the challenges life can present. My own experiences have deepened my empathy and understanding, allowing me to offer a supportive and non-judgemental space.

You might find yourself constantly worrying about the symptoms, checking your body, worrying while waiting for appointments, feeling lost and finding it difficult to communicate with health professionals. I offer calm, supportive and safe space to help you navigate through the complexities of your condition, become more in control and find some peace within.

Relationships can be the most meaningful parts of our lives, but also they can be the most challenging. You might be experiencing conflict, feeling unheard, struggling with trust or going through difficult change. I offer the containing space to explore what is happening and help you find a way forward that feels right for you.

You may be dealing woth workplace stress, difficult colleagues, burnout or uncertainty about your career. These challenges can affect your confidence, mood, life outside your work. Together we can explore what is happening and work towards greater clarity and resiliece.

Berievement and Loss
Bereavement can affect every part of your life - emotionally, physically, mentally. You may expereince sadness, anger, confusion, numbness. There is no right way to grieve. Together we can gently explore your experience and support you through this difficult time.

Life Transitions and Change
Life is full of changes - some expected, some are not. You may be navigating a transition such as moving, a change in relationships, becoming a parent or a shift in your career. Even positive changes can feel overwhelming. I offer a supportive space to help you adjust, process your feelings and find your footing.

Low Mood and Depression
Low mood and depression can feel heavy and isolating, making even everyday tasks feel difficult. You might feel disconnected, stuck or unsure how to move forward. In our work together, we can gently explore your experience, understand what may be contributing to how you feel, and begin to support change.

Self-Esteem and Confidence
Low self-esteem can show up as persistent self-criticism, difficulty trusting yourself, or feeling held back in different areas of life. It can be exhausting to constantly question your worth. Together we can explore where thesee feelings are coming from and work towards building greater self-acceptance and confidence.
About Me
My practice is dedicated to creating a safe environment where you can express your thoughts and feelings.
Together, we will explore the underlying issues affecting your mental well-being and work towards greater understanding, clarity and emotional wellbeing.
Training, qualifications & experience:
- Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (BACP accredited)
- Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling
- Certificate in Psychodynamic Counselling with The Counselling Foundation
- BA Hons Degree in English Philology
- 5+ years of counselling experience (face to face and online)
- 3+ years of experience as a specialist counsellor in rare illnesses
- Ongoing training in Complex Trauma (CCTP/CCTP-II)
- Training in Mental Health and Rare conditions
- Enhanced Disclosure from Disclosure and Barring Service
- Registered with ICO for data protection

How therapy works
- Get in touch by email at admin@vilmacounsellingpractice.co.uk
- Initial chat (15 minutes)- a chance to get to know each other, what brings you to counselling and understand how we can work together.
- All sessions last 50 minutes.
- I offer both open ended and short time therapy. We discuss this on our initial chat.
- My fees are currently £70 online and £105 for in person sessions (central St Albans).
